Dating Tips

There are many resources that list dating advice.  Upon searching the phonebook, you may also find someone who is a relationship coach.  If your past dating strategy is not working, then you may need to brush up on some dating tips.  Everyone has their own methods of getting a date, or even a second date.  Unfortunately, there is more to dating than simply going to a bar and hoping someone will ask you out.  Once achieving a date with someone, there are several tips that will help you make a lasting impression.

Advice for women:

  • Do not talk about your ex-spouse.
  • Order more than an appetizer; contrary to beliefs, men like women who eat.
  • Go light on the perfume; when you are nervous you sweat and that makes the perfume smell stronger.
  • Do not be the one talking the whole night. Sometimes it is better to leave more to the imagination.
  • If it is the first date, consider driving separate for your safety.
  • Take extra cash with you for emergencies, and a quarter to call someone from a payphone.
  • Do not let anyone deliver your drink to you.  Even if you are on the date with the person, always see where the drink is coming from.
  • The most important thing to remember is to breathe.  Dating is not as nerve wrecking as it seems.

Advice for men:

  • Do not bring wine, it makes you seem like you are trying to take advantage of her.
  • Flowers are always thoughtful, but a more modern gift may be more acceptable.  A gift that goes with the date, such as a scarf for a picnic in the park.
  • Always open her car door for her, or any door for that matter.
  • It is nice to try to be a gentleman, but do not try too hard.  It comes across as overbearing.
  • A dinner and a movie is not always the best option.  Try being unique and take her on a non traditional date.  In many towns, there are old movies shown in the park, downtown festivals, and swing dances.  You want to make a lasting impression.
  • It is nice for you to ask her about herself, but you also need to be open to questions about you.  You date will not like being interrogated.
  • The same goes for men, do not talk about your ex-spouse.
  • Women do not like a mommy’s boy either, so try not to over do it about your mom.  We know she is special, but it can ruin the mood.
  • Women like cologne on a man, but not too much.  It is natural for a man to put too much cologne on when they are nervous, but just remember that your date has to ride in the same car with you.

Being in a world where everyone has a date for Friday night, can put a lot of pressure on you.  Once you are on a date, it can be very hard to be yourself knowing that the other person is evaluating you.  The most important thing to remember is to try to relax the best that you can.  When you are relaxed, you seem more confident, and that is what attracts the other person.
